Big Motoring World tips for your CV

Writing a good CV can be one of the toughest challenges of job hunting. Sometimes there can be fine lines between getting through to an interview and falling at the first hurdle. With that in mind, Big Motoring World are on hand with some helpful pointers.

Keep it real

The truth is bound to come out at some point, so you will inevitably be caught out if you’re lying on your CV. It should be no longer than two pages, so keep it to the point and only include relevant information. Don’t try to hide anything which may hinder your employability status, as that will only frustrate your potential employer.

Tailor it

If you’re applying for numerous jobs or roles, it’s worth slightly adapting the copy in your CV to be relevant to the specific role you’re applying for. Research the company and use the job advert to work out EXACTLY what skills you should point out.

Include a cover letter

However self-explanatory your CV may seem to you, it won’t do any harm to include a short paragraph in a separate document or email explaining exactly why the job is right for you. That could set you apart from the other candidates and send you to the top of the pile.

Spelling mistakes

Nothing looks worse than spelling mistakes on a CV so double-check it yourself and ask someone else to check it for you. Try using a spelling or grammar checker if you’re unsure, as accuracy is of the utmost importance!

Do the maths

Give accurate, precise figures of your details in education and previous figures. So if you increased sales figures by 72%, say exactly that! Make sure you include references too, as that will make it easy for someone to do a background check on you!
