How To Deliver In The Interview Room

A job interview is an important part of the interview process. It allows for a recruiter to get to the know the candidate one on one and affords a valuable opportunity for both parties to get to know each other. However with the prospect of a job at stake, how do you deliver as a candidate?

A good interview can be the deciding factor between whether your application progresses or not so it’s important to be on form in the interview room and command the recruiter's attention whilst knowing your CV and your answers inside out.

In this article, we’ll take a look at three ways that you can truly deliver a great interview.

1). Do your homework!

When going into an interview it’s important to know as much as possible about the recruiting company. It is almost certain that you will be asked questions to this effect so being able to bat these questions back in an assertive manner is a real plus. You don’t need to know everything, so don’t worry, there's no need to stick your head into their public accounts, however, knowing their core social responsibilities and what they stand for is a must.

2). Rehearse the common questions

In an interview, there are always common questions that come up. For example, questions, where you have to give an example of a time where you dealt with a customer effectively or made a real impact on the business, are very likely to come up in the interview so practising questions like this are important. These are fundamental questions so really nailing these will stand you in good stead. In addition, don’t forget to rehearse the classic, where do you see yourself in five years time question.

3). Consider your body language

Body language is telling so understanding how to conduct yourself is another important consideration. Consider your handshake, a firm handshake shows confidence and self-assurance. A poor handshake indicates the reverse. Eye contact is also important as it shows you’re listening and interested. It’s also is a good way to instil confidence and trust between parties. Finally, it’s also important to consider your attire. Ensure you dress suitably for the job at hand and always strive to be smart. Little things make a difference.
