How to get on in the workplace and increase your chances of success

Whilst there is no surefire way to guarantee success in the workplace, what can you do to increase your chances of success? With many elements involved in your job going about them in the right way is key, but aside from this, there are a number of other areas of work that you can utilise to help your cause. In this article, we’ll take a look at three of these.

1). Be a team player

This is a must. Being a team player in the workplace environment is essential. Naturally, our job roles cross over and interlink with the work that several other departments do. Working closely together with these other areas of the business ensures a more seamless working environment and allows for the experience of a number of people to be pulled together to achieve the desired result. By being a team player you are already enhancing your standing as a person. You are more likely to be approachable and will appear to put the collective interests of the company ahead of your own ambitions. Having this kind of reputation can only pay dividends further down the line.

2). Draw upon the experience of your peers

A great way of doing this is aligning yourself with someone in the workplace that is happy to be your mentor. Even the most polished of employees are always learning something new and by being able to draw upon the experience of someone who has been there and done that in the same company instantly affords you some great first-hand experience. Having someone you work alongside as a mentor will also help you to gather feedback on your own performance. They will most likely see how you perform on certain tasks and be able to give you first-hand feedback.

3). Be personable

Whilst there is a time and a place for socialising, there is no reason why you can’t have fun in the workplace. Being approachable, kind and courteous will certainly afford you more friends than enemies in the workplace. By being an approachable person people may be more likely to come to you for advice or see you as more open for opportunities. These alone are two great areas that may help you to further your own development and standing later on in your career.
