How to improve your efficiency in the workplace
To deliver a more productive and efficient working day, it’s important to overcome a number of obstacles that present themselves in the workplace. We all procrastinate sometimes but being able to overcome periods like this is a valuable way to deliver a higher level of efficiency.
In this article, we’ll take a look at a number of different ways that you can be more efficient with your time. From taking a break to making a to-do list, there are a number of ways that can help you get back on track in the workplace. Let's start by taking a look at the benefits of creating a to-do list.
Making a to-do list
It may seem like a fundamental basic. Creating a list of tasking that you want to achieve helps you to set out a plan for your day. It provides you with a guide to stick to and clearly outlines what you aim to achieve. The benefit of creating a list is that you get the added satisfaction of ticking off tasks as you go about your work is not only satisfying but equally rewarding.
Don’t work on multiple tasks at a time
This point could be liked to spinning plates. We all want to get our tasks done and out of the way as quickly as possible. However, biting off more than you can chew can lead to both tasks taking longer to complete and may lead to poorer quality as a result. Take one task at a time. This way you are devoting your whole time and attention to each project. This means that you may well complete the task quicker and arguably to a higher standard.
Focus on the most important project first
It may sound self-explanatory, but more often than not we may well end up putting off important tasks because the may be large or we are not sure on how best to tackle them. If they are large, consider if there is scope to break it down into more manageable chunks. It may be hard getting stuck into those important tasks, but getting them out of the way first will be so rewarding and allows you more time to dedicate on other areas afterwards, thus upping your efficiency as a result.
Learn to say no
It’s sometimes easier to say yes in the workplace rather than no. This may be because you want to please or you may find it awkward saying no. Either way, saying yes to additional tasks or work will only negatively affect your ability to complete your other tasks. Get better at saying no, or at the very least, consider the consequences on your time before saying yes.
