How To Maximise Your Efficiency Working From Home
Working from home can be a real luxury for some of us. Greater flexibility at home, no morning commute and no need to be crammed onto a train or stuck in traffic. There are so many positives to working from home, however, how do you stay focused and work effectively?
Whether you love working from home because it allows you to to really focus without the distractions of the office or whether you loathe it because you find yourself dipping into tasks around the house, there is a lot to be said around home working.
Working from home is far more commonplace in 2019 as employers work towards more flexible working hours for its workforce. Whatever your angle on it, there’s a number of ways that you can boost your effectiveness when it comes to working from home and in this article, we’ll do just that.
Let's dive straight in to point number 1.
1). Structure your day
Keeping a structure to your day is very important. Writing a to-do list or setting a structure in which you’re going to go about your work that day can allow you that extra bit of focus. Having a guide to work by gives you targets to aim for and can also act as a motivator as you tick items off of your to-do list. In addition to this, structure your day in a way that will work best for you. Whether you are an early bird or a night owl, the time of day you get your work done shouldn’t matter too much as long as you can achieve your targets and still be able to deliver what your employer expects.
2). Consider your home working space
This one is key. To be productive at home you need to work in a part of your home that is conducive to getting things done. Whilst it may be tempting to sit on your laptop in bed, this isn’t a particularly practical way to be totally efficient. Having a defined workspace can help you to get in the zone, somewhere quiet, tidy and free of distractions is a must. A bonus is if you can work in a different room to that you would use day to day. If you can do that, at the end of your working day you can shut the door on your work to prevent a line between work and leisure being blurred.
3). Consider your break patterns
Whilst you are working from home, it is still important to take a break and structure your day appropriately. Take time to have lunch away from your computer. It’s easy to get drawn to sitting at your desk all day but taking time away from your work, even at home is essential. It’s good for both the mind and body so, ensure that you take regular breaks as you would in the office.
So there you have it. Three tips that you can action right now to boost your output when working from home. A little focus is all it takes and that productivity slump can be easily and quickly rectified.
