Whether that is the where do you see yourself in five years question to being asked to demonstrate an achievement you're proud of, what can you expect in an interview?
In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the most frequently occurring interview questions. Whilst these questions may not feature in your interview, being prepared and being able to actively assert your authority and deliver a clear and concise answer can help to bolster your chances of success.
Let's take a look at some of the most common questions.
What are your biggest weaknesses?
For some, this is a questioned most feared. There is a potential here to trip yourself up and you need to go into answering this question mindfully. You don’t want to provide an answer where something wasn’t resolved, you need to provide the interview with a scenario where you learned from when something may not have gone as intended. Whilst you are delivering a negative, you are immediately backing it up with a positive.
What do you consider your biggest workplace achievement?
This question is particularly open-ended and the emphasis on how to answer is placed firmly at your feet. Whilst you may have had success across a range of business roles, in your answer to this question it is paramount to deliver a scenario that is relevant to the role that you are applying for. Failing to be relevant will only negatively affect your chances, even if the success you achieved was credible.
Why are you leaving your current position?
This question leaves your intentions, as a candidate clear. The reasons why you are leaving a current role are always of interest to a new potential employer. They want to establish if there are any negative reasons for looking to change businesses or roles. Was this because of conflict or is this person looking to progress in their career? In responding to this question it is important that you explain your move from a positive point of view.
An interview can be a challenging situation, however, nail the more fundamental questions and you are already on the way to delivering a far more polished interview.
